Milan Fashion Week Fall 2008

Milan Fashion Week was clearly about pleats, ruffles, bows and jewel tones.
Colors like Peacock green and electric blue neon lighted the runway across the board. Prominent features were puffed and cuffed sleeves and legs, wide-legged trousers, stone and mirror encrusted dresses.

After the dramatic goth look which we saw at the London, Milan was more feminine, pretty, easy on eyes and subtle!

Some collections and my impressions on them:

Just Cavalli:
It was a tad disappointment and far from sexy. Usually Cavalli oozes sex appeal which was lacking this time. Though I liked the tights and the patterns on them. I liked the whole seventies' look: black mini dresses and hats. Though maxis in animal prints have become too predictable.

The best collection till now has been Emporio Armani. I loved the use of shiny velvet with crystal and mirror embellished dresses. Armani always spells unmitigated luxury and oomph. Loved the high-waist trousers and jackets. I loved model's short hair up dos.

Francesco Scognamiglio
was gorgeous. Loved the dresses with puffed shoulders and cuffed legs. Loved the blouses with bow details.

Missoni was breathtakingly gorgeous. Loved the floral motives and strapless evening dresses with beads and frills.

Alberta Ferretti: Milan's queen of chiffon again unleashed a collection of spell binding creations in colours as luscious as peacock green and blue. This time it was subtle and toned down. Pleated, feminine and treat to the eyes-Ferretti stood out!

Giorgio Armani: It was interesting to see how Armani played with florals in his collection lending clothes a feminine touch. Pointy shoes, jackets, wide legged trousers and pleated skirts were a sight to behold and epitomised luxe.

Burberry: What took my breath away at Burberry were awesome handcuffs. Beautifully embellished coats and dresses towards the end worn with tights and stylish clutches made for a perfect Fall ensembles!

D and G: I found the collection quite a let down. And considering the younger crowd they are catering too I wonder if it will find many takers. I found the tartan skirts quite frumpy!

Moschino Cheap and Chic: It was trendy and hip! The show stopper according to me was clearly a shift which had an abstract motif painted on it. All in all a smart collection!

Prada was drop-dead-gorgeous! Goddesy, lacy dresses for the unputdownable femme fatale! The expensive lace was beautifully employed to make the look sexy and ultra-chic. Worth mentioning is the angelic foot wear and bags! Till now Prada has been the best! After wowing us with the breathtaking florals last time...this time Prada brought sexy back into fashion. And how!

I also loved Gucci's collection but it was the exact replica of the Russian czar look which we saw at Gucci's men's fall collection. Charms, chains, furs and kohl rimmed eyes-everything was alluring and Frida seems to be soaking in all finer nuances of Russian culture and dressing.

After showing the boring Just Cavalli collection, Roberto Cavalli was again disappointing. The whole collection was cluttered, distracting and clumsy with florals and furs thrown in here and there.

Dsquared 2: The look was sexy and femme fatal-ish. Loved the killing shade of lipstick which the models sported with nude make-up. I liked the element of drama over here which was lacking at the other shows. Models carrying their gloves and shoes in hands wearing the fishnet stockings on the ramp were ultra-glamorous! Adored the pencil skirts, plaid dresses and shirts with ties-"Boyfriend chic"!

Fendi was awesome. Very clever dresses with beautiful collars and sleeves. I particularly liked the use of gold in the black ensembles. The length of the dresses was kept shorter ending at the thighs. I loved the belts cinched at the waist making it a strong and confident look.

Versace: The acid yellow off shoulder mini-dress which Aygness wore was my favorite. What was interesting in the collection was the use of prints. Mini metallic shifts with asymmetrical neckline were gorgeous. The luscious light gray, slashed at the thigh number which Lily Donaldson wore was epitome of Versace's unapologetic luxe-oomph! All in all a stunning collection for the seasoned red carpet dazzler!

Maurizio: I loved the shiny metallic dresses which closed the show.
